Music Physician). The poet d'Annunzio calls rhythm "the heart of music" (Assagioli 100). Rhythm has an intense, immediate effect on people, directly affecting the body and emotions. It is very hard not to move your body when you hear a powerful rhythm. Nature has rhythms, such as the rhythm of the seasons, the rhythm of the Moon orbiting the Earth, waxing and waning, the cycles of life. In audible vibrations, a slow vibration is a rhythm, and a fast vibration is a tone. Drum rhythms can connect us to nature, connect us to the universal rhythm of the mother's heartbeat. It binds us all together as the human race. Connection is a healing experience.
